Obituary: Margery James, Retired Nurse in Health Services

Margery Carolyn (Clark) James, 86, of Amherst, a retired nurse in Health Services, died Dec. 15.

Born in Brockton, she graduated in 1953 as a registered nurse from St. Luke’s Nursing School in New Bedford. She joined UMass Amherst Health Services as a staff nurse in 1970 and obtained her Bachelor of Science in nursing from the College of Nursing in 1983. She worked in Health Services for 28 years, much of it part-time, and retired in 1998.

She continued in nursing as a volunteer with Baystate Franklin Medical Center. She was also actively involved with the College of Nursing Alumni Association, including serving on its board of directors.

She is survived by her husband Robert James Sr.; her children Patty Armstrong (husband Ted), Ellen Lord, Robert James, Jr. (wife Sally Ann), and Meg Hamlet (husband Russell).

A celebration of life in her honor will be held March 29, from 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at Hadley Farms Meeting House, 41 Russell St., Hadley.
