Nieswandt Receives Research Leader Fellowship
Martina Nieswandt, associate vice chancellor for research and engagement, received an Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) Council on Research (CoR) Research Leader Fellowship, which started in July.
During this 18-month fellowship, she will visit several APLU universities to learn about their approaches to economic development, core and shared facilities, start-ups and other public-private partnerships related to research.
The goal of her work is to enhance UMass Amherst faculty-industry research collaborations across disciplines as well as race, gender and nationality, and to identify strategies for doctoral and post-doctoral students to engage in industry partnerships to support their career aspirations.
The Research Leader Fellowship Program is designed to provide training and skill development to individuals who work closely in various capacities as or with vice presidents, vice provosts, vice chancellors for research, including those who aspire to transition into vice provost and vice chancellor for research positions in the future.
The Research Leader Fellowship Program will leverage CoR's network of research leaders and allow fellows to grow connections across areas of expertise and to expand relationships between and among professional organizations, APLU and institutions.
