Nieman Reports Publishes Pasha’s Article on Teaching Journalism in Prison
Assistant professor of journalism Shaheen Pasha’s article “Why We Need More Journalism Courses Taught in Prison” appeared Aug. 9 in Nieman Reports, a publication of the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University.
The article featured her fall 2017 journalism course, which brought 17 journalism students behind bars at Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction in Northampton to work with 10 incarcerated students on explanatory journalism.
The course was built on her research as a 2018 Knight Visiting Nieman Fellow at Harvard in the spring semester.
Founded in 1947, Nieman Reports is a website and quarterly print publication covering thought leadership in journalism. Its editorial mission mirrors that of the Nieman Foundation: “to promote and elevate the standards of journalism.”
