Nagurney is the Recipient of the 2020 Harold Larnder Prize

Anna Nagurney, the John F. Smith Memorial Professor at the Isenberg School, and the director of the Virtual Center for Supernetworks, is the recipient of the 2020 Harold Larnder Prize. She is the 35th recipient of this award and only the second female to be so recognized.

The announcement was made Michael Pavlin, the president of the Canadian Operational Research Society (CORS), at the virtual general meeting of the society on June 10. According to the CORS website, "The Harold Larnder Prize is awarded annually to an individual who has achieved international distinction in operational research." Harold Larnder, after whom the prize is named, was a well-known Canadian in wartime operational research, who had a major role in the development of an effective, radar-based, air defense system during the Battle of Britain.

Nagurney is known for her contributions to research on a variety of network systems, from congested urban transportation networks to complex supply chains with applications ranging from food to blood as well as disaster relief. She is the author/co-author of 14 books and over 200 refereed journal articles.

Hugh J. Miser, who had been a professor of industrial engineering and operations research at UMass Amherst, received the 1990 Harold Larnder Prize, after his retirement from UMass.
