Music and Dance to Present Faculty Concerts by Tomita, Bottomley
The department of music and dance will present concerts by two faculty members, jazz bassist Fumi Tomita and tubist John Bottomley, at Bezanson Recital Hall in the UMass Fine Arts Center. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Sept. 20, Tomita will lead “A Night of Hard Bop” featuring music by Victor Feldman, Oscar Pettiford, Lucky Thompson, Hank Mobley and others. Tomita will be joined by Dave Detweiler, assistant professor of jazz saxophone at Florida State University.
On Monday, Sept. 24, pianist Nikki Stoia will join Bottomley in performing Ben Tibbetts’ “Sonata for Tuba and Piano,” Kenton Bales’ “Fantasy on a Lakota Theme,” and fellow faculty member Salvatore Macchia's “Links for horn, trombone, tuba and electronics.”
The concerts are free and open to the public.
