The University of Massachusetts Amherst-based Western Massachusetts Health Equity Network continues its MOSAIC film series on Wednesday, May 11 in Florence. The series aims to highlight the visionary justice work of people of color in Western Massachusetts.

The evening will kick off with a walking tour of Abolitionist Florence, led by the David Ruggles Center for History and Education. Participants will walk the African-American history trail, seeing Sojourner Truth’s house, abolitionist landmarks and the site of the 19th century utopian abolitionist community called the Northampton Association of Industry and Education. The walking tour will leave from the Bombyx Center and return there for the rest of the evening’s events.

In addition to the film, in English with Spanish subtitles, the event will feature cultural exploration and intergenerational conversation centered on the screening.

Holyoke storyteller Michelle Falcón Fontánez, who seeks to make social change through photography, film, theater and installation art, was chosen to produce the MOSAIC film, which was commissioned by the health network.

The series’ final event will be held in Turners Falls on May 18. RSVP here.
