In conjunction with Multicultural BRIDGE (Berkshire Resources for Integration of Diverse Groups through Education), the University of Massachusetts Amherst-based Western Massachusetts Health Equity Network continues its MOSAIC film series on Thursday, May 5 in Great Barrington. The series aims to highlight the visionary justice work of people of color in Western Massachusetts.
In addition to the film, in English with Spanish subtitles, the event will feature cultural exploration and intergenerational conversation centered on the screening.
Music performance and art exhibit also will be featured.
Holyoke storyteller Michelle Falcón Fontánez, who seeks to make social change through photography, film, theater and installation art, was chosen to produce the MOSAIC film, which was commissioned by the health network.
One of the people featured in the film is Arthur Wright, who migrated to Berkshire County in the late 1960s after being raised in segregated communities in North and South Carolina. He put down roots in the Berkshires and worked as a chef before forming several businesses. He retired at age 90 and got involved with Multicultural BRIDGE.
The series continues with events in Florence (May 11, RSVP here) and Turners Falls (May 18, RSVP here)
