Michal, Spiridopoulos to Open Fall Faculty Concert Schedule

The department of music and dance kicks off its fall 2018 concert schedule with free performances by two faculty members. Both concerts will feature world premieres of works by faculty member and composer Salvatore Macchia, who marks his 40th anniversary with the department this year.

Both performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Bezanson Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Center.

On Monday, Sept. 10, Joshua Michal, horn, will present an eclectic program of chamber music with fellow faculty members Ludmila Krasin, piano, and John Bottomley, tuba. The concert will feature music by Ryan Nowlin, Gary Kulesha, and Antonio Rosetti plus the premiere of Macchia’s “Ekphrasis” for horn and live electronics.

On Monday, Sept. 17, trombonist Gregory Spiridopoulos will present his own faculty concert with Nikki Stoia, piano. The program will include works by Bernstein, Gregson, and the debut of Macchia’s “The Monk Who Listens” for trombone and electronics.
