Got a favorite seafood recipe? Cook it up and snap some photos for a chance to win prizes while you’re supporting local, sustainable seafood in the Instagram-based Massachusetts Seafood Cook-off. The statewide contest is co-sponsored by UMass Dining, the state’s Division of Marine Fisheries and Our Wicked Fish, a Deerfield-based nonprofit that aims to educate consumers about sustainable seafood options. Our Wicked Fish was founded and is run by UMass alum and environmental conservation grad student Amanda Davis.

“The Massachusetts seafood industry has been deeply affected by COVID and they need a boost – both financially and in spirit,” Davis explains. “We hope that this virtual cook-off on Instagram will encourage more people to connect with their local seafood options, plus win great prizes.”

The contest, with four weekly themes, runs from Oct. 4 through Nov. 1. Five guests from the state’s seafood industry will judge the contest each week. Prizes include grocery, eatery, seafood market and other gift cards. UMass Dining will host a related virtual event Oct. 21 as part of the Diet for a Cooler Planet series.
