AMHERST, Mass. — The Amherst Police Department, with its regional law enforcement partners, reports that the community is safe. 

Amherst Police and UMass Police report six arrests and the Amherst Fire Department report six ambulance transports.

Police officers and Amherst CRESS responders are present in neighborhoods in North Amherst, East Amherst and neighborhoods adjacent to the university. Police are interacting proactively with students and town residents. The Town of Amherst, its police department, the university and regional partners are committed to ensuring the safety of the community, safety of first responders and protection of private property.

Meanwhile, more than 1,500 tickets were distributed for the free, university-sponsored Spring Blast in the Fine Arts Center featuring comedians Tiffany Haddish, Ben Schwartz, Jimmy O. Yang and Roy Wood Jr. which began at 11 a.m. and continues into the afternoon. An additional 600 students signed up for free bus trips today to ski at Berkshire East, explore the New England Aquarium in Boston and attend two different Broadway shows.
