Libraries Offer New Open Access Resources
In accordance with their mission to support open access and open educational resources, the UMass Amherst Libraries are now offering new resources—IntechOpen and Latest Thinking—to faculty, students and the community.
The term “open access” refers to resources and research openly available online for anyone to use and under some licenses, to remix, improve and redistribute. The libraries acquiring more open access resources responds to a growing interest among faculty in using these materials and augments campus efforts to make course materials more affordable.
IntechOpen, a community founded by scientists for scientists, is a leading global publisher of journals and books within the fields of science, technology and medicine. Through the libraries’ partnership with them, fees for faculty are waived for publishing within the community’s 225 frontlist volumes and discounted 10 percent for publishing outside of that list.
Latest Thinking seeks to broaden the impact of scholarly works through its independent open access video journal, providing over 200 video summaries of new research findings based on peer-reviewed academic publications covering all academic fields. UMass’s participation in this project ensures that more high-quality, up-to-date videos on the latest research in a variety of fields will be created and made freely available to users around the world. Additionally, webinars on the role of videos in scholarly communications are available to library supporters and researchers.
