Libraries Hosting “Evidence of: Photography and Documentation” Exhibit

The Libraries is currently hosting an exhibit, “Evidence of: Photography and Documentation,” through Friday, Jan. 31 in the W. E. B. Du Bois Library, both on the lower level and in Special Collections and University Archives (SCUA), on floor 25.

Drawing from the burgeoning collections of visual materials in SCUA, the exhibit showcases how photography has been a tool for documenting the world since 1839 as both a revolutionary technology and subversive art. This exhibit explores the evolution of photographic processes and the varied ways that photographers have used their medium to interact with the world around them.

Photographers on display include Peter Simon, Jeff Albertson, Alton H. Blackington, Clif Garboden, Rowland Scherman, Diana Mara Henry, Kathy Borchers, and Nancy Palmieri, all of whose archives reside in SCUA. The portion of the exhibit on floor 25 begins with a range of early photographic processes; the exhibit on the lower level focuses on photography from the 1960s onward, especially protest movements and the American music scene. The exhibit will be accompanied by an online exhibit featuring a single image drawn from 50 individual SCUA collections.
