Katherine Dorrity Named Assistant Director of Emergency Management

Environmental Health and Safety and Emergency Management is pleased to welcome Katherine Dorrity as assistant director of emergency management.

Dorrity comes to UMass with a strong emergency management background in higher education. Most recently, she was assistant director of emergency management and continuity at Indiana University Bloomington (IU), where she was instrumental that institution’s COVID-19 pandemic response, as well as having served as emergency, continuity and planning during her time at IU. 

While at IU she also served as an associate professor in the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, providing instruction on several courses on emergency management courses. During her time at IU, she also supported and served in volunteer roles for the county’s emergency management agency.

Prior to Indiana University, Kate was assistant director, risk and facilities management at Purdue University.

Dorrity in a certified emergency manager (CEM) through the International Association of Emergency Managers.  She earned her undergraduate from Georgia Institute of Technology and her master’s from Georgia State University.

The Emergency Operations Center team and Environmental Health and Safety look forward to having Kate as part of the campus planning and response teams.
