John Organ Receives Aldo Leopold Memorial Award from The Wildlife Society

John Organ, adjunct associate professor in the department of environmental conservations and retired chief of the U.S. Geological Survey’s Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit Program, has been selected as the recipient of this year’s Aldo Leopold Memorial Award from The Wildlife Society.

According to The Wildlife Society, the Aldo Leopold Memorial Award is its highest honor and awarded for distinguished service to wildlife conservation. The significance of an individual’s contribution(s) to the wildlife field are among criteria considered in selection.

Five previous winners of the award supported Organ’s nomination and in it he was praised for his 42-year career, which includes research, conservation, management and contribution to understanding the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.

Organ earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UMass Amherst, as well as his Ph.D.
