Albert Assaf, a professor in Isenberg’s department of hospitality and tourism management (HTM), is this year’s recipient of the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE) Lifetime Research Achievement Award. The honor recognizes an ICHRIE member for lifetime leadership and contributions to scholarship and research— including the deployment of systematic, objective data analysis—in hospitality and non-hospitality journals. Founded in 1946, ICHRIE espouses continuous improvement of global education, research, service, and business operations in the hospitality and tourism industry.

“I believe that my largely methodological work, especially in the area of performance modelling, was the main reason for receiving this award,” observes Assaf, who was recently named the Hadelman Family Research Fellow and who coordinates HTM doctoral research at Isenberg.

Professor Assaf’s wide-ranging research encompasses tourism and transport economics and hospitality; management and marketing; econometrics and statistics; and finance. His recent research has appeared in the “European Journal of Operational Research,” “Journal of Banking and Finance,” “Transportation Research part B, Tourism Management,” “Journal of Travel Research,” “Annals of Tourism Research, International Journal of Hospitality Management,” and “Journal of International Marketing,” among others. He is the editor of “Tourism Economics” and associate editor of three other journals.
