Hazmat Training Exercise Set for May 30 at UMass Amherst

AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Amherst is partnering with the Massachusetts District 4 Hazardous Materials Response Team to conduct a training exercise on Wednesday, May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The exercise will take place in laboratory space in the university’s Lederle Graduate Research Center. The District 4 team and the Amherst Fire Department will participate in the exercise along with UMass research personnel and staff from campus departments including Environmental Health and Safety, Emergency Management, UMass Police and Physical Plant.

Multiple emergency response vehicles will be on site near Lederle as part of the drill.

The state Department of Fire Services has six regional hazardous materials response teams to provide specialized personnel and equipment to towns and cities to protect the public, the environment and property during incidents involving a release or potential release of hazardous materials. District 4 encompasses the 70 communities within Franklin, Hampshire and Hampden counties.
