The Interdisciplinary Studies Institute announces that Jonathan M. Square of Harvard University will give a public lecture “The Myth of the Tignon and the Invention of New Orleans,” Thursday, Oct. 31 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Integrative Learning Center room S140.

Square is a writer, historian and curator of Afro-Diasporic fashion and visual culture. He runs the website “Fashioning the Self in Slavery and Freedom,” which explores the intersection between fashion and slavery.
