Graduate students from all departments are invited to be involved in the 2021 ECo Graduate Student Symposium (ECoGSS). ECoGSS welcomes graduate students to present research ideas, research proposals, case studies or anything they may want to get feedback on.

The symposium, hosted by the environmental conservation department, will be held via Zoom on Friday, March 19, 2021. Abstracts for talks, posters, and discussion panels are due Friday, January 22nd at 11:59 pm.

Further details are available at https://blogs.umass.edu/ecogss/.

Opportunities to present include:

1)Traditional talks will be allotted a 15-minute time slot (12 minutes talk, 3 minutes questions). Traditional talks are an opportunity to develop and present a talk that you may give at a larger conference later in the year.

2) Lightning talkswill be allotted 5-minutes, with a Q&A period at the end of a group of talks. Lightning talks help graduate students communicate their research efficiently and effectively.

3 )Posters, for both individuals and research/lab groups, will be set up in a virtual platform with a one-hour interactive session. These sessions are an opportunity to get feedback on study design and sampling plan, discuss analyses or share the work being done in your lab.

4) Panel Discussions are unique opportunities to collaborate with other students and lead a discussion with colleagues. Panels consist of 3-4 people and are allotted 45 minutes to discuss topics of your choosing, such as diversifying conservation, science storytelling, science communication and outreach, professional opportunities outside of academia, climate change, animal tracking and more.
