Flags Lowered for Springfield Marine Killed in World War II

Gov. Charlie Baker has ordered the United States and Commonwealth flags lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Friday, May 25, the date of interment, in honor of Marine Pfc. Francis E. Drake Jr. of Springfield, who was killed in action on Guadalcanal on Oct. 9, 1942 during the Third Battle of the Matanikau. He will be laid to rest at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.
