Flags Lowered for Jamaica Plain Soldier

Gov. Charlie Baker has ordered that the U.S. and Commonwealth of Massachusetts flaga be lowered to half-staff at all state buildings from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, Nov. 9, the date of interment, in honor of 1st Lt. Joseph Finneran, U.S. Army Air Corp, of Jamaica Plain and native of Needham.

1st Lt. Finneran was killed on Aug. 1, 1943 when serving as crewmember to the B-24 bomber “Ole Baldy.” It was shot down that day during Operation Tidal Wave. His remains will be laid to rest at the Mount Benedict Cemetery in Boston.
