Final Event in MOSAIC Film Series on Racism and Community Health is Set for Wednesday in Turners Falls

The University of Massachusetts Amherst-based Western Massachusetts Health Equity Network will close its MOSAIC film series on Wednesday, May 18, with a community event in Turners Falls. The series aims to highlight the visionary justice work of people of color in Western Massachusetts.
As part of the event, a photo exhibit of Sow Well Tots Early Childhood Program will be featured in the lobby of the Shea Theater Arts Center. The Bernardston school is woman-led and nature-based, bringing together the research and practice of Afro-folk arts and deep respect for early childhood development. Photographer Greta Rybus will bring the program to life with her work.
In addition, Andre Strongbearheart, an Indigenous activist from the Nitmuc nation, will speak about humans’ multifaceted relationship with the earth and share a stomp dance a round dance. The Montague Public Libraries also will be on hand to discuss how public libraries support community health.
The film is in English with Spanish subtitles. Holyoke storyteller Michelle Falcón Fontánez, who seeks to make social change through photography, film, theater and installation art, was chosen to produce the MOSAIC film, which was commissioned by the health network.
