Faculty Perspectives on SoTL Workshop Scheduled for Sept. 28
The hybrid Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) workshop, Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m., will offer faculty of all career stages and disciplines an opportunity to reinvigorate their teaching and develop inquiry methods that can reveal how best to support their students’ learning. Focused around the systematic study of classroom learning and sharing those results publicly, SoTL can be “done” in a variety of different ways, with different entry points based on your goals, questions about your teaching and time available.
In this interactive panel discussion, participants will hear from three UMass faculty who have engaged in various ways with SoTL:
• Forrest Bowlick, lecturer, geosciences
• Albert Lloret, associate professor, Spanish and Portuguese studies
• Michelle Trim, senior teaching faculty, Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences
The panelists will discuss why and how they began their SoTL journeys and how it has impacted their careers. The panel will end with a Q&A session at noon facilitated by Colleen Kuusinen and Brian Baldi of the CTL. At noon, there will be time for more informal discussion with in-person attendees and panelists. This panel will be conducted in a hybrid format, with the panelists joining via Zoom. Participants can join on Zoom or come to the Center for Teaching and Learning for coffee and in-person connection.
Registration is available on the Center for Teaching and Learning’s website.
