Faculty Panel Discusses 'Making Research Matter'
The Public Engagement Project is hosting “Making Research Matter: Sharing Insights on Public Engagement,” a panel and discussion on how to engage effectively with diverse public audiences, on Friday, Feb. 2 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hadley Room of the Campus Center. Lunch will be served.
The program marks the release of “Making Research Matter: A Psychologist’s Guide to Public Engagement,” edited by Linda Tropp, professor of psychological and brain sciences.
Including book contributors from on and off campus and faculty from the Public Engagement Project, the panel will highlight the many ways academics can become engaged scholars and share insights about effective strategies for engaging diverse audiences across a range of social issues, public domains, and institutional contexts.
The featured speakers are Meg Bond, professor of psychology and director of the Center for Women and Work at UMass Lowell, Ezra Markowitz, assistant professor of environmental conservation and a Frameworks Institute fellow, Amy Schalet, associate professor of sociology and director of the Public Engagement Project, and Tropp.
Economics professor M.V. Lee Badgett, author of “The Public Professor: How to Use Your Research to Change the World,” will moderate the panel.
The event is co-sponsored by the colleges of Social and Behavioral Sciences, Natural Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts, Education, and Engineering, School of Public Policy, Center for Research on Families, Institute for Social Science Research, the Office of the Provost and University Relations.
