Erin Baker to Moderate Offshore Wind Panel for Wilson Center, Smithsonian

Erin Baker, professor of industrial engineering and operations research, will moderate a panel entitled “Offshore Energy: Favorable Winds for Renewables?” on Wednesday, April 21, for the Woodrow Wilson Center and Smithsonian. The panel discussion runs from 10 to 11 a.m.

Baker will moderate a panel of experts discussing offshore wind as a part of the Wilson Center’s Earth Week events in conjunction with the Smithsonian Conservation Common’s Earth Optimism Initiative. The experts include Bill White, head of U.S. offshore wind for Avangard Renewables; Damian Bednarz, external affairs director for EnBW; and Matt Morrissey, head of market affairs and strategy for Ørsted Offshore North America. The panel will be introduced by Daniel S. Hamilton, director of the Global Europe Program for the Wilson Center and Austrian Marshall Plan Foundation Distinguished Fellow.

The conversation between European and American representatives of offshore wind projects will be virtual and webcast live, and will focus on the potential for the use of offshore wind on both sides of the Atlantic, the role it has in the fight against climate change and new innovations that are driving implementation. The conversation is part of a transatlantic green initiative organized by the Wilson Center’s Global Europe Program and European embassies in Washington, D.C.
