Epidemiology to Host Seminar on Environmental Chemicals and Pregnancy

The department of biostatistics and epidemiology, part of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences, will host a seminar, “Quest to Understand the Impact of Environmental Chemicals on Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes,” on Friday, Nov. 22 at 10 a.m. in Life Science Laboratories N210.

This seminar will be hosted by Carmen Messerlian, assistant professor of environmental reproductive, perinatal and pediatric epidemiology at Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research is focused on examining the extent to which environmental exposures affect a couple’s ability to achieve conception, maintain pregnancy and deliver healthy offspring. 

This seminar will present findings that examine the relationship between paternal and maternal preconception as well as maternal prenatal exposure to phthalates and phenols and the risk of preterm birth.
