Epidemiology’s Hankinson Awarded AACR Distinguished Lectureship in Breast Cancer Research

Susan Hankinson, Distinguished Professor of epidemiology, has been awarded the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Distinguished Lectureship in Breast Cancer Research 2020. This lectureship recognizes an outstanding scientist whose work has inspired or has the potential to inspire new perspectives on the etiology, diagnosis, treatment or prevention of breast cancer.

Hankinson presented a featured scientific lecture at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium held virtually Dec. 8-12. The talk addressed several of her projects that utilized biomarkers in population-based research to provide insights into the hormonal etiology of breast cancer, assess potential improvements in risk prediction models and to further understanding of biologic mechanisms underlying breast cancer risk factors.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this award,” says Hankinson. “As the first epidemiologist to be so recognized is particularly gratifying.”
