Emmanuel Adero Named Deputy Chief Officer for Equity and Inclusion
Emmanuel Adero has been named the deputy chief officer for the UMass Office of Equity and Inclusion, and will assume this role effective immediately. Adero has been an integral part of the Office of Equity and Inclusion since April 2018, and previously served as the senior director of diversity outreach, assessment and planning.
In this role, Adero manages and supports day-to-day operations in the Office of Equity and Inclusion. His portfolio includes overseeing campus engagement initiatives, assisting administrators in high-level problem solving on acute or ongoing climate concerns, liaising with partners in human resources; academic affairs; and student affairs and campus life to develop and review resources and procedures, and providing direct consultation to area leadership on local climate-related matters. He also manages data collection and assessments for the office, and collaborates with OAPA on the planning and administration of the campus climate surveys.
Holding a B.A and M.A. in sociology, and with a background in social research and analysis in the public and non-profit sectors, he is deeply committed to public service and engagement. A native of the Pioneer Valley and longtime member of the UMass community, he is invested in making our campus one that all members—students, staff and faculty—can be proud to call home.
