Elizabeth (Liz) Williams has been appointed associate provost for analytics and assessment. Williams most recently served as the executive director of survey and effectiveness research and will continue advancing the focus on data literacy and ethical use of data in her new role.

In a March 11 email to the university community announcing the appointment, Interim Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Mike Malone said that Williams “has more than 30 years contributing to research at UMass and has a proven track record in survey and evaluation methods. Her leadership in gathering, analyzing and disseminating high quality surveys and focus group data and in leading the further development and use of data analytics will be invaluable to advancing our campus strategy by enabling data-informed decision making.”

Since 2003, Williams has served as an adjunct faculty member in the College of Education’s Department of Educational Policy, Research & Administration (EPRA), and for a decade has also served as a core faculty member in the Higher Education graduate program, teaching various courses, advising students and serving on comprehensive exam and dissertation committees.  Currently, she teaches a summer workshop in Survey Design for the Institute for Social Science Research (ISSR).

Williams holds a B.A. in Sociology and English from Connecticut College and a Ph.D. in Sociology from UMass Amherst.
