The Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation will host its second annual Nursing and Engineering Symposium on Friday, Oct. 20. Those interested in healthcare, engineering, nursing, creative problem solving and robotics are encouraged to attend the event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Cape Cod Lounge of the Student Union.

Symposium presenters will include recipients of Elaine Marieb Center for Nursing and Engineering Innovation pilot grants, industry professionals and UMass faculty.

Registered participants will be able to learn about innovative solutions developed by nurses-engineer teams, make connections for future internships, get to know faculty and meet like-minded peers.

Roundtable discussion topics will include transportation’s effect on Black maternal health, interventions for improved nurses’ health and blood pressure management in Black and Hispanic American communities. Also, undergraduate students from the Institute for Applied Life Science’s Core Summer Internships will discuss their work studying IV Smart Pumps, the use of robotics in nursing, and the nurse-engineer approach practiced in real time at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield; and there will be discussions of how interdisciplinary nurse-engineer research projects at Baystate brings innovative healthcare solutions from UMass laboratories to patient care and robot technology in nursing.
