DownBeat Lauds UMass Amherst Jazz Program as a ‘Gem’

The October issue of DownBeat magazine features an article praising the UMass Amherst jazz program as one of the county’s top five based at universities in small or mid-sized communities.

The magazine spoke with Jeff Holmes, director of jazz and African American music studies, for the article, which cited the jazz program’s focus on collaboration as key to a student’s development.  

Also praised were Indiana University, Oberlin College and Conservatory, Middle Tennessee State and the University of North Colorado.
