Department of Judaic and Near Eastern Studies Presents Annual Jacobs Lecture

Marina Rustow, the Khedouri A. Zilkha Chair in Jewish Civilization in the Near East at Princeton University, will deliver the department of Judaic and Near Eastern studies’ annual Jacobs Lecture on Wednesday, April 24 at 4 p.m. The free, public event will be held in the Integrated Learning Center, room S331.

Rustow's illustrated lecture, “Lost Archives, Sacrosanct Wastebins, and the Jewish Medieval World,” will explore the Cario Genzia, a cache of texts preserved in the attic of a medieval Egyptian synagogue. The documents shed light on Jewish life in the middle east from the world of women and children to the non-rabbinic lives of well-known rabbis.

The Jacobs Lecture is an annual public lecture endowed through the generosity of Pamela and Robert Jacobs on an important issue in Judaic studies.
