Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health Inducts New Members

The UMass Amherst Rho Chapter of the Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health inducted its 2020 cohort of new members into its ranks this past spring semester. Delta Omega encourages excellence in student scholarship and research, recognizes academic achievement, and provides members with leadership development, publication, and networking opportunities.

Undergraduate student inductees were public health sciences majors Samira Dias, Ian Worstell, Kristiana Tadeo, Nora Finnerty, and Nazifa Ibrahim. Graduate student inductees were Jill Tirabassi (Worcester MPH program), Meaghan Joyce (Worcester MPH program), Brie Engelbrecht (Biostatistics and Epidemiology), Alice Fiddian-Green (Health Promotion and Policy), and Leanne Desmond (Public Health Practice program).

Alumni inductees were Filimon Kiros (Environmental Health Sciences, MS ‘17) and Sofija Zagarins (Epidemiology, PhD ‘09). The faculty inductee was Lindiwe Sibeko, Extension Assistant Professor of Nutrition.

“We’re sorry we can’t gather in person this year, but we are delighted to welcome the new members to the Delta Omega Honor Society," says Rho Chapter president Risa Silverman, the director of the Office of Public Health Practice and Outreach for the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. "These students, alumni and faculty represent a wide selection of excellence in public health and health sciences.”

Silverrman notes the annual induction luncheon or a similar celebration will be rescheduled for a later date after restrictions on large gatherings have been lifted.
