Debold Receives Marion J. Siegman Annual Award Lectureship

Associate Professor of Kinesiology Edward “Ned” Debold has been selected by the American Physiological Society to receive the 2022 Marion J. Siegman Annual Award Lectureship. This award recognizes “established investigators who have made outstanding contributions to the understanding of contractile processes in muscle which has opened new avenues of investigation in the field.”

Debold will deliver a featured scientific lecture entitled “Muscle Fatigue from the Vantage Point of a Single Myosin Molecule” on Monday, April 4, at the annual meeting of the American Physiological Society, Experimental Biology 2022, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His talk will address his research investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying the loss of function that occurs with muscle fatigue.

“It is a great honor for me, and for all of the graduate students working in my lab, to receive this kind of recognition from the premier physiological society,” says Debold. “I’m just the lead singer of a really great band. It is also honor for the Department of Kinesiology, which is the only one of its kind to create an environment for my single molecule biophysical research.”

Founded in 1887, the American Physiological Society is a nonprofit devoted to fostering education, scientific research, and dissemination of information in the physiological sciences. It is the preeminent society in physiological research. It is also a member of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology, a coalition of 26 independent societies that plays an active role in lobbying for the interests of biomedical scientists.
