David Dower Appointed Executive Director for Campus Development
Shane Conklin, associate vice chancellor of facilities and campus services, has announced that David Dower has been named executive director for campus development.
Dower will lead the campus capital program’s development of plans to determine future capital programs for delivery of UMass Amherst’s buildings, facilities infrastructure, campus landscape and support services, as well as the implementation of a comprehensive portfolio of capital and real estate projects, including acquisitions and new construction, renovations, infrastructure replacement and improvements.
He will also be responsible for planning, organizing and administering the activities and operations of the UMass Amherst Campus Planning and Design & Construction Management departments, as well as ensuring proper campus oversight of projects managed by the UMass Building Authority and the Division of Capital Asset Management & Maintenance.
Dower, who brings extensive experience in campus and facilities planning, facility design and construction, including leadership roles at American University, Harvey Mudd College and Williams College. Most recently, he served as director of capital projects regional service center for the University System Maryland where he oversaw capital projects for five of the system’s 12 institutions.
Dower, who holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Boston Architectural College and Master of Urban Affairs from Boston University, started in his new position Dec. 4.
