History professor Daniel Gordon has become co-editor in chief of the journal “Society.”

In 2016, The Library of Social Science described “Society” as having “a reputation as the social science counterpart to ‘Scientific American.’”

The journal is aimed at decision makers, academics and others concerned with trends in modern society. Articles in “Society” span the social sciences, including sociology, political science, economics, psychology, anthropology and political theory.

Contributors have included Henry Kissinger, Margaret Mead, Claude Levi-Strauss, Orlando Patterson, Simone de Beauvoir and James Q. Wilson. Gordon noted that his own most recent publication, “The Firing of Angela Davis at UCLA, 1970: Communism, Academic Freedom, and Freedom of Speech” appeared in “Society” in December 2020.

He became co-editor in chief in February 2021. Gordon will lead the journal with co-editor Andreas Hess, a sociologist at University College Dublin.
