CTL to Host ‘Implicit Bias and Microaggressions in the College Classroom’ Workshop
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) will be hosting a workshop, “Implicit Bias and Microaggressions in the College Classroom,” on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 11:30 a.m. on Zoom.
Facilitated by Jonique Childs, College of Education, and Kirsten Helmer, CTL, this session will offer an introduction to the concepts of implicit bias and microaggressions.
Participants will learn how to identify microaggressions and explore some strategies that can help you to respond more effectively to microaggressions when they occur.
Workshop Goals
- Explain the concepts of implicit bias, microaggressions and stereotype threat and how they impact learning environments.
- Identify examples of microaggressions.
- Explore and share strategies that challenge implicit biases and allow us to respond more effectively to microaggressions when they occur.
