Conference to Focus on ‘Puerto Rico after Maria’
The Center for Latin American, Caribbean and Latino Studies presents “Puerto Rico After Maria: Unnatural Disasters and Community Responses” on Friday, March 30 from 1-6 p.m. at the Marriott Center, 11th Floor, Campus Center.
Attendees will hear from scholars and community organizers about the dire predicament of Puerto Rico and its 3.5 million U.S. citizens.
There will be two keynote speakers: Arturo Massol, professor at the University of Puerto Rico Mayaguez and executive director of Casa Pueblo (http://casapueblo.org/), and Jorge Duany, director of the Cuban Research Institute and professor of anthropology at Florida International University (https://cri.fiu.edu/).
Panelists include: César Pérez Lisazuain, visiting professor in political science and legal studies; Marina Moscoso, urbanist and activist; and Mariolga Reyes Cruz, scholar and activist.
Light snacks and refreshments will be served, and a reception will follow.
The event is sponsored by the department of political science and the Office of the Provost.
