Community Renaissance Festival Offers Taste of the Past
The 16th annual Community Renaissance Festival will fill the grounds of the Arthur F. Kinney Center for Interdisciplinary Renaissance Studies, 650 East Pleasant St., on Sunday, May 6 from 11 a.m.- 4 p.m.
The family-friendly, rain-or shine event is free to the public. Costumes are encouraged.
Free parking is available in Lot 44 across from the UMass Police Department, 585 East Pleasant St., with free shuttle service to and from the event. There is handicapped parking at the center and limited parking at the festival.
Festival pleasures include pottery, weaving, music and dance, falconry and swordplay.
Returning features include Phoenix Swords, falconry with Marla Isaac, games with Mutton and Mead, blacksmithing with Ted Hinsman, our Renaissance Buffoon, Accidental Wedding Performed by our Buffoon, Bob Melnik of Green River Woodcraft, Alta Luna Consort, book sale, the Harper and the Minstrel, weaving by WEBS, jewelry making with Kate of Antika Nueva, Robie Bones for music and play, AyreCraft, food and drink by UMass.
New friends this year include: Heavy Combatants of the SCA East Kingdom, Amherst English Country Dancers, the Pelham Elementary Band, the Boar's-Head Tavern Band, Meadow Street Styles, Tarot Readings with Mrs. Miller, Fairy Glenn, Tudor Bowman and Bowyer demonstration with Axel B. Boy.
