College of Engineering Dean Sanjay Raman Appointed to Defense Science Board

Sanjay Raman, dean of the College of Engineering, has been appointed to the Defense Science Board, a federal advisory committee chartered to provide Department of Defense (DOD) leadership with independent advice and recommendations on matters related to strengthening national security.

The board’s 40 members are appointed to terms of up to four years and are considered eminent authorities in the fields of science, technology, manufacturing, acquisition process, and other matters of special interest to the DOD.

“I’m very excited and honored to have this opportunity to join this very distinguished group of science and technology leaders, and to be able to contribute to advancing our nation’s security,” Raman says.

Raman has been COE dean since August 2019. Prior to that he was associate vice president for the Virginia Tech (VT) National Capital Region, president and CEO of the VT Applied Research Corporation and a tenured full professor in VT’s Bradley Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE). He is an elected fellow of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for leadership in adaptive microwave and millimeter-wave integrated circuits.
