Natural Science Lecturers Receive Professional Development Awards

The College of Natural Sciences (CNS) has announced the five recipients of the spring 2019 Lecturers’ Professional Development Fund awards. The awards offer support for technology assistance, conference and research travel, and other activities with the goal of helping recipients become more effective teachers and mentors.

The spring 2019 recipients are:

Caralyn Zehnder, biology, to present a poster at the Gordon Research Conference on “Undergraduate Biology Education Research: Achieving Widespread Improvement in Undergraduate Education”

Ludmila Tyler, biochemistry and molecular biology, to attend the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory’s Statistical Methods for Functional Genomics short course

Ashley Woodman, psychological and brain sciences, to attend the International Society for Autism Research Conference in Montreal, Canada

Irene Dujovne, physics, to attend the workshop “Organizing an advanced lab course” offered by CALTECH

Elsa Petit, Stockbridge School of Agriculture, to attend the regional meeting of the 44th ASEV (American Society of Enology and Viticulture) - Eastern Section Annual Meeting

The awards are based on the relevance of the lecturer’s proposal to further develop their career, as well as its potential to contribute to the university’s mission of teaching and research. Since its inaugural year in 2017, the fund has provided over $20,000 to CNS lecturers across a multitude of disciplines.
