Claudia Donald Named Interim Chief Marketing Officer

Claudia Donald, executive director of digital marketing and online communications, has been named interim chief marketing officer at UMass Amherst.

Reporting to John Kennedy, vice chancellor for university relations, Donald will oversee the Marcom Group, which provides a strategic suite of centralized services that handle all aspects of marketing and related communication including branding, advertising, design, writing, marketing, web services, analytics and program-oriented social media.

Donald earned an M.S. in computer information systems at Boston University and holds a B.S. in food and natural resources from UMass Amherst. She previously served as chief technology officer and as a consultant with Amherst-based FlyTheUSA, Inc. and as a senior project manager at State Street Corp. in Quincy.

Donald joined the university in 2005 and held a variety of roles before being appointed director of online communications in 2014 and later as senior director of online communications and client services in 2016. Donald was nominated to attend the prestigious HERS Institute in 2013 and earned a Chancellor’s Citation Award in 2016. At UMass, she has assumed a number of leadership roles, including service on the Web Governance Policy Committee as well as the Accessibility Advisory Committee and the Information Communication Technology Council.
