Christella Louist Awarded the 2022 Barbara B. Burn Memorial Scholarship by the IPO

Junior Christella Louist from Indonesia is the 2022 recipient of the International Programs Office’s (IPO) Dr. Barbara B. Burn Memorial Scholarship.

As a junior finance major at the Isenberg School of Management, Louist was selected from a highly competitive applicant pool. Growing up in both Indonesia and Singapore, Louist has a profound appreciation for, and interest in, cultures and languages which has resulted in a curiosity in learning new things and exploring what the wide world has to offer.

While at UMass, Louist appreciates the opportunity to share her own cultural background and international experiences with her UMass friends and classmates, thereby doing her part, as was Barbara Burn’s belief, that international students should play a vital role in internationalizing the education of American peer classmates.

Barbara B. Burn founded the International Programs Office at UMass Amherst and devoted her career to the ideal of making international education accessible to any student. When she died in February 2002, her family, in cooperation with the University, established a memorial scholarship in her memory.
