TIDE Ambassadors will explore how they can enhance students’ learning and academic success across cultural, social, and learning differences by adopting a strength-based, inclusive, and equitable approach to teaching and learning grounded in the value of diversity.

Full-time faculty (both non-tenure and tenure-track track faculty except for short term hires) are eligible to apply. Applications are encouraged from faculty at all stages of experience who are interested in enhancing their capacity and skills for teaching diverse students in inclusive and equitable ways, and who consider stepping into a leadership role as TIDE Ambassadors.

TIDE Ambassadors will attend intensive introductory institute sessions in May 2022 as well as regular monthly cohort meetings and other events throughout the academic year. Fellows are expected to develop a final ambassador project through which the they will share aspects of their learnings at the departmental, school/college or campus-wide level. In recognition of the commitment necessary to participate in TIDE, the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) will provide $1,500 of GOF funds that Ambassadors can use for their further professional development.

Here is what some TIDE Ambassador fellows said about their experiences:

“I now feel part of a very strong and engaged community across the university and have many colleagues to turn to for advice on different topics.”

“I found a place to discuss my hopes and concerns, to give and get support, and where my desire to develop my ability to respond to my students' needs in my teaching in increasingly meaningful ways was normalized and validated. TIDE offers an environment that is very unique and it is invaluable in this regard.”

“The experiences during TIDE were incredibly powerful and formative for me.”

“TIDE has impacted every aspect of my teaching. It has impacted the things I create (syllabi, documents, etc.), how I present material, and who I am as a person.”

Eligible faculty members can apply directly by submitting the completed application form via email to khelmer@umass.edu by Monday, Feb. 14.
