Enobong (Anna) Branch, associate chancellor for equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer, has been elected the 2019-20 vice president of the Eastern Sociological Society (ESS), a non-profit academic organization dedicated to promoting excellence in sociological scholarship and instruction.

“I am thrilled to have been elected to serve as vice president,” says Branch. “ESS has been a vital part of my academic life, providing me with essential opportunities to lead through service as a means to give back. It’s important to maintain this space as one where everyone feels welcome, seen and heard. I look forward to helping to govern the organization and make recommendations to support the needs and interests of its diverse membership.”

Branch has been actively involved with ESS since 2006, including serving as a member for both the programming committee and the Komarovsky Book Award Committee;providing academic

presentations at several of its annual meetings; and organizing mini-conferences.

In an email announcing the election results, current ESS President John Torpey wrote, “We have an outstanding leadership slate to lead ESS in the coming years.”
