Beemyn Recognized with Torch Award for Trans Advocacy

Genny Beemyn, the director of the Stonewall Center, was recognized with the first Lou Sullivan Torch Award for their scholarship and advocacy for trans inclusion on college campuses on Friday, Sept. 27 in Washington, D.C.

They received the award, named after pioneering trans activist, writer and historian Lou Sullivan, in recognition of their national work supporting trans students by writing books and articles, giving talks, consulting with colleges and maintaining a database of colleges with trans-supportive policies.

Beemyn also participated in the inaugural National Trans Visibility March on D.C. on Saturday, Sept. 28.
