Baoshan Xing Delivers Invited Lecture as ‘Chief Guest’ at International Agriculture Conference in India
Baoshan Xing, professor of environmental and soil chemistry in the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, traveled to Hisar, India, to give the invited keynote lecture at the inaugural ceremony of the Golden Jubilee International Conference on New Millennia Agriculture: Novel Trends and Future Scenario.
Xing, who served as “chief guest” of the inaugural function, spoke last week at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University on “the importance of biochar for soil health and resiliency.” One of the world's most highly cited researchers, Xing conducts research in environmental and soil chemistry that focuses on protecting the environment through maintaining or improving soil and water quality.
Stockbridge plant/agriculture biotechnologist professor Om Dhankher was also among the distinguished scientists from around the world who gave keynote lectures at the conference. He spoke on “fueling and feeding the future: developing climate-resilient crops for enhanced production of food and fuels.”
Attended by about 600 people, the conference aimed to address food insecurity and sustainable agriculture – “the two foremost challenges facing the agriculture community in the coming millennia” – by promoting a combination of innovative science and integrated approaches.
