Annual OSHA Summer Summit to Be Held on Campus June 14

Massachusetts Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rosalin Acosta and Hampden County Sheriff Nick Cocchi will be the keynote speakers at the 5th Annual Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) Summer Summit on Thursday, June 14 in the Campus Center.

The event is being hosted by UMass Amherst in conjunction with OSHA, the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development, the OSHA training Institute at Keene State College, Safety Council of Western New England and the Connecticut Valley Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals.

Acosta will speak on Workforce Strong, an initiative ensuring workers, employers and the unemployed have the tools and training needed to succeed in the Massachusetts economy. Cocchi will speak to the growing opiate and opioid addiction problems in this country and the impact this has on our communities, families and the workplace.

In addition to the above, 500-plus safety professionals from the Northeast, as well as Illinois and Georgia  will choose from important professional development topics such as empowering the workforce for safety, developing a safety culture, fall protection, electrical safety, machine guarding, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness and OSHA case studies.
