Is American Democracy Going Backward? A Conversation with UMass Alumnus Bob Weiner

UMass Amherst alumnus Bob Weiner (‘74) will be joining Daniel Gordon, professor of history, in Herter Hall, room 601, on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m. to discuss the history and future of American democracy.

They will touch on major political events from Watergate to Whitewater to the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. Conversation will draw from Weiner’s extensive experience as Democratic National Committee (DNC) staffer who worked at the Watergate, as a spokesperson for two Whitehouse administrations and as a senior staffer for several congressmen and a senator. Using these experiences, Weiner will also consider the future of democracy and what can be done moving forward.

In addition to his experience as a DNC staffers and in the Whitehouse, Weiner is a winner of the National Press Club President's Award as leader of an OpEd writing group that recruits young and college journalists as bylined co-writers for 1,000+ articles. He is also a radio and TV commentator.
