Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey will be the guest speaker at the School of Public Policy’s (SPP) spring 2021 kick-off event.

“A Conversation with Maura Healey” will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. on Zoom.

“The School of Public Policy is dedicated to preparing leaders for public service just like Attorney General Healey,” said SPP director Alasdair Roberts. "We're excited that she will be launching our spring semester.”

The event is open to members of the UMass Amherst community. Advanced registration is required.

Healey was elected to office in 2014. As attorney general, Healey’s priorities have included addressing gun control and safety, the opioid addiction epidemic and the student loan crisis, among other issues. She also created the office’s first-ever Community Engagement Division.

Prior to her election, Healey served as chief of the Attorney General Office’s Civil Rights Division, where she led the state's challenge to the federal Defense of Marriage Act. She’d also headed the office’s Public Protection and Advocacy Bureau and its Business and Labor Bureau.
