Perseverance pays off for Korka Sall and family
With a husband overseas in Senegal and three children under the age of seven to pandemic-parent, Korka Sall, ’21 PhD, English literature, looked to the UMass Amherst Student Parent Programs for assistance with childcare, grants, and support to complete her degree. Amid her studies, she became a teacher assistant as well as a tireless advocate for UMass Amherst international graduate students, all while completing her dissertation, “Negritude Feminisms: Rethinking Gender with Black Francophone Women Writers.” After graduation, Sall moved to Senegal and now works for the University of Minnesota as an international exchange program coordinator.
